What is it?

The fossilised skull is from the largest, scariest sea creature that has ever lived in the world's oceans in all time. At 2.4m long, the skull is from an animal that would have been 15-18m long.

What does it look like?

The creature was a stout, short-necked monster, with four huge paddles (fins) and a massive head. Images of the creature can be viewed at www.nhm.ac.uk.

Weymouth Bay Pliosaur

One of the largest and best preserved examples of a Pliosaur skull ever found in the World. Pliosaurs are the largest, scariest predator to have ever swam in the worlds oceans and this is one of the best ever found.

Discovered eroding out of a landslide near Weymouth by local fossil collector Kevan Scheehan between 2004 and 2008, the specimen was acquired with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund 'Collecting Cultures' programme under a project called Jurassic Life lead my the Dorset Museum Service and is now on display in the geology gallery of the Dorset County Museum in Dorchester.
