Who is responsible for conservation?

The Site is protected by existing UK conservation law; Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI’s) and these are the responsibility of Natural England (previously English Nature) and the landowners. The wider setting for the Site is protected by the Area Of Natural Beauty designations (Dorset AONB and East Devon AONB). Landscape issues are very unlikely to impact directly on the World Heritage Site unless they lead to a future need for further coast protection schemes. AONB conservation policy is about protecting the landscape
