OUGS Field Trip to the Isle of Sheppey

Fieldwork is an essential part of geology and the OUGS organises field trips, both in the UK and abroad. Check the events list.

In addition to opportunities to do field work, there are talks, revision days,  workshops, and social events .

A  weekend Symposium is held annually at which world class speakers are invited to give talks on a wide range of geological topics.

Whatever your level of interest there will be an activity to suit. OUGS organises over 200 events  each year.

Membership is open to all, not just Open University students and staff. Are you interested in finding out more about this dynamic Society?

The OUGS operates from 18 branches throughout the UK and Europe and has over 2000 members. Branches are managed locally and provide a focus for students and enthusiasts in their area. Do you want to find your local branch?

Independent study can be an isolating activity. The OUGS provides a forum for likeminded people to come together and enjoy the study of geology.

The OUGS Journal is produced twice annually:
- one issue containing research papers and field trip notes submitted by members
- the other is the Symposium Edition, containing a synopsis of each talk given at the annual symposium.
