The Ussher Society

The Ussher Society, named after W.A.E. Ussher, is the regional geological society for the South West of England and promotes all aspects of geoscience in the South West of England (including the Channel Islands and the Isles of Scilly).

The Society holds an annual meeting in early January at various venues around the region. Next year's event will be held between the 6th and 9th January at the Redcliffe Hotel, Paignton (this year's meeting was held in St Ives). The form of the Conference is two days of presentations on all aspects of geoscience in, or associated with, South West England together with one or two days of field excursions. The event includes the Scott Simpson Lecture given by an invited speaker of international status, the Annual General Meeting, and an informal dinner.  In recent years, it has been a feature of the Conference to include a joint session of applied geology presentations with the SW Regional Group of the Geological Society.

The Society publishes the double refereed journal "Geoscience in south-west England" annually. The journal covers a range of disciplines including geology, geomorphology, engineering geology and environmental geology.
