Spatial planning research project

One of the primary aims of the Jurassic Coast Pathfinder Project is to cultivate a planning system which is well equipped to reconcile the potential conflict between a sustainable approach to coastal change and coastal development pressures. To address this aim, the project appointed Land Use Consultants to carry out a gap analysis of the capacity of national and local planning policy to support adaptation to coastal change and planning for future coastal change.

The report includes:

  • A review of the national policy framework relating to coastal change
  • A review of the current spatial planning policy affecting the six Jurassic Coast Pathfinder case study communities
  • Identification of best practise examples where adapting to coastal change has been integrated into local planning policy
  • Recommendations to National and Local Government on how coastal change management can be integrated into local planning policy
