Investigating the Jurassic Coast

durdle-door_web

This unit of work explores the character and importance of coastlines, and the processes that shape them, both physical and human. It investigates in detail the geography of the Jurassic Coast of Dorset and East Devon, now designated as a World Heritage Site, focusing on its character and some of the pressures that impact on it. Interconnectivity with the coastline of the Hampshire Basin is explored through investigation of past changes in sea level. Lastly present day causes and concerns regarding sea level change are evaluated. Pupils are given the chance to participate in putting forward suggested remedies to this issue.
