Find out more about Kimmeridge Bay Marine Centre
Long rock ledges, a pebbled beach line and rocky outcrops all make this bay stunning.
Kimmeridge boasts some of the most accessible marine wildlife in Dorset - an extended low tide provides extra rockpooling time and the natural stone ledge jutting into the bay make it particularly easy to view the rich lower shore and shallow waters. The marine centre explores the exceptionally rich marine life found on the numerous rocky ledges that run across the bay and also interprets the wider marine environment found within the Purbeck Voluntary Marine Nature Reserve. 'Snorkelling for Softies', Guided rockpool 'rambles' and a live underwater camera are special features at this new centre.
The bay is also a known for traditional water-based activities such as angling and, in warmer weather, paddling and swimming. Divers have known about Kimmeridge for many years and converge on the bay on summer weekends. Launching from Kimmeridge provides access to many excellent dive sites, such as the Underwater Nature Trail. More recently, intrepid windsurfers and surfers have discovered the bay and can often be seen flitting across the bay and leaping over waves.
