SIdmouth is a Gateway Town to the Jurassic Coast.

Sidmouth still has a unique charm, which has captivated thousands. Beautiful gardens, leisurely walks, Regency history, fine hotels, clean beaches and friendly shops - it's all here in this lovely seaside town.

Sidmouth still has a unique charm, which has captivated thousands.  Beautiful gardens, leisurely walks, Regency history, fine hotels, clean beaches and friendly shops - it's all here in this lovely seaside town.  Sidmouth nestles beneath majestic red cliffs and the green hills of the glorious Sid valley, meaning it is not only picturesque but also enjoys a very mild climate.

There are a variety of good restaurants housed in many of its fine hotels, while its cafes and pubs serve excellent food to suit all tastes. There are safe clean beaches for swimming, sailing or wind surfing, a superb golf course and driving range, plus pitch and putt, bowls, tennis, a croquet lawn and a welcoming seafront cricket club. The town is also home to the wonderful 'Fields', one of only a few select, family owned and managed, independent department stores left in England, whose bags boast 'service as it used to be'.

Every year, at the height of the summer, the town literally overflows with colour and swings to the sound of world music during the internationally acclaimed folk festival. The once quiet promenade becomes a packed corridor of Morris dancers, didgeridoos, fire eaters and lyre players. Festival goers trip from pub to pub, pewter tankards in hand sampling the local ale at the town's many pubs. 

People who have visited Sidmouth once generally return again and again. Its old world charm is enchanting.

The main headquarters and intake centre of the Donkey Sanctuary are located at Slade House Farm near Sidmouth, just off the South West Coast Path. There are no commercial attractions at the Sanctuary, just gently rolling countryside with walks around the fields where you can meet the donkeys. Getting There

By Foot: Accessible via the South West Coast Path which runs along the entire length of the Jurassic Coast.

By Bus: There is a regular bus service from Exeter bus station to Sidmouth. In summer the bus service meets certain main trains at Honiton railway station but visitors are advised to consult Stagecoach. Tel: 01392 427711, or your local railway station for details. By Road:  The A3052 goes straight to Sidmouth. If travelling south on A303 join A30 exit at Honiton and follow signs A375 to Sidmouth.

By Air: Exeter Airport is 30 minutes from Sidmouth. Scheduled services for domestic and international flights.
