Beer is a Getway Town to the Jurassic Coast.

Nestling in a small valley, lies the delightful, 'picture postcard', fishing village of Beer.

Once famous for smuggling, the harbour is a natural cove, a suntrap sheltered from the prevailing westerly winds, with a shingle beach nestling below the white chalk cliffs.

The history of the village revolves around the Quarry caves, which have been worked by hand since Roman times.  Work in the caves stopped 90 years ago leaving great caverns, which are now open to the public and offer a fascinating insight into the different eras and aspects of life in Beer. 

The main street has interesting galleries, cafes, antique shops and guesthouses and is framed by a brook flowing gently down either side.  The Marine House is well worth a visit.  It is bursting with arts and crafts and you have the opportunity to watch a potter working and then purchase some Beer pottery in the shop afterwards. 

Above the village is Pecorama, a must for railway enthusiasts, but with something for all the family.  A ride on the Beer Heights Light Railway, a miniature steam railway, offers beautiful views over Beer and neighbouring Lyme Regis.  The Peco Millennium Garden features an exhilarating mix of traditional and innovative features, with scented walkways and themed gardens.  There is also an aviary, fish and ducks in the 'Deepwater Lake', children's shows at the 'Top Spot' theatre, plus an Assault Course with climbing frames and cable slide. 

Getting There

By Foot: Accessible via the South West Coast Path which runs along the entire length of the Jurassic Coast.

By Road: From Exeter take the A3052 towards Lyme Regis. At Hangman's Stone take the B3174 into Beer.

From the A303 take the A358 through Chard and Axminster down to Boswell Cross. Go straight onto the B3172 through Seaton and onto Beer

From the East come along the A35 on to the A3052 towards Lyme Regis and left onto the B3172 through Seaton and onto Beer
