New bus service to help you explore the Jurassic Coast

A new way to explore the Jurassic Coast will be available from Saturday 24 July with the launch of the new X43 bus service.

The new link between Swanage and Weymouth via Lulworth Cove is being introduced as a trial service until 5 September following requests from local people.

The Purbeck CoastLinX 43 (X43) service will provide an easy way to enjoy a day out along the Swanage to Weymouth section of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

During the summer holidays, the bus will run four times a day, including Sundays and Bank Holidays, in each direction.

The service will be jointly operated by Wilts and Dorset from the Swanage end and First Hampshire and Dorset from the Weymouth end.

Passengers can use the bus to walk a section of the South West Coast Path, visit the seaside at Weymouth, Lulworth Cove and Swanage and get access to Corfe Castle, the Swanage Railway, Durlston Country Park and other attractions along the route.

The service links to the railway at Wool and Wareham stations and to other bus services including X53 Jurassic Coast Link, Purbeck Breezer services 40 and 50 and the new Durlston Bus shuttle service in Swanage.

Passenger numbers during the trial will help to determine how the service might be developed in the future. The scheme is being funded by the Purbeck Transportation Strategy, part of Dorset's Local Transport Plan.

Dorset County Council cabinet member for transport, Peter Finney, said:

"This new service offers residents and visitors an additional opportunity to visit this section of the beautiful Jurassic Coast without having to take their car. The service could become an important tool in reducing traffic congestion as well as improving access to leisure and enjoyment on the coast."
