Jurassic Fantastic Summer 2007

During August, four local museums, Dorset County Museum, Weymouth Museum, Portland Museum and Bridport Museum  are running a series of events designed specifically for children and families.

Four weeks of exciting activities kick off at Weymouth Museum from 6 - 10 August, move to Dorset County Museum in Dorchester from 13 - 17 August, and to Portland Museum 20 - 24 August.  A final week of events at Bridport Museum runs from 27 - 31 August.

The theme for the month will be life along the Jurassic Coast - the different ways in which the coast has links to people, fossils, dinosaurs, smugglers, pirates...  the list is endless!

Activities taking place during Jurassic Fantastic include making a large-scale 3-D landscape, drama sessions based on a local Jurassic Coast character, art and craft activities, storytelling and themed music days.  There will also be a chance to explore each of the museums.

In addition to the activities above, animator Stuart Dawson will be running a series of animation workshops which will offer children between the age of 10 and 13 the chance to make their own stop-motion animated film using their own storyline, props, models and a set.  Finished films will be available to view on the Dorset Echo website the week after the event.

Further details of the activities happening on each day will be available nearer the time - just contact your local museum for further information.

All activities will be free.  Children must be accompanied by an adult, but one adult can accompany three older children (aged ten and over).

These events are being supported by Dorset County Council's Supporting Jurassic Coast Museums Initiative and by West Dorset District Council.
