Miranda Krestovnikoff chooses 6 year old Abigail from Devon to make and name her own ice cream flavour.

Miranda Krestovnioff, best known for presenting on 'Coast', 'Country Lives', and 'History Mysteries' has picked the overall winner from hundreds of entries of the ‘draw your best day out in the South West' postcard competition. The competition was run by Future Footprints as part of its campaign to ‘keep the South West special', and was open to all children visiting or living in the South West this summer.

Miranda explained why she chose Abigail's entry, "It's great to see that a "best day out" was had on a bicycle ride. The South West is a great place to explore by bike with charities like Sustrans expanding the cycle network every year. There were lots of fantastic entrants showing some of the special days out in the South West, and what a great place it is for a holiday. The competition is part of a charitable partnership Future Footprints, an initiative which I am pleased to support, which shows how we can all take small steps on holidays and day trips which can help protect and preserve this unique landscape and environment."

Abigail is the lucky overall prize winner, and will receive a trip to Roskilly's ice cream in Cornwall where she will have the chance to make and name her own ice cream flavour. She says, "I'm very happy you liked my picture. I love riding my bike and racing my brother. I'm very excited to be going to the ice-cream factory and am thinking hard to choose a name for my ice cream." Abigail's mum Beverly is also pleased with the results, she says, "We're lucky to have these fantastic days out on our doorstep."

The runners-up include: Charlotte from Devon aged 7, Ciranne aged 10 and Isabel aged 5 from Bristol and 15 year old Billy from Cornwall.

Future Footprints is a charitable partnership helping people have a great time in the South West by choosing local products and trying out fun car free days out.

Project Manager Clare Mitchell explained: "We would like to thank all the children who sent in their postcards - we had hundreds of fantastic drawings of best days out in the South West.  The postcards demonstrate how much the South West has to offer.Future Footprints shows how we can all help make sure that the South West stays special for years to come. For example, we welcome 26 million annual visitors to the region, and even if a small percentage chose local food and drink on holiday it would make a significant difference. There are so many ways we can all help keep the South West special, and these postcards show how much children love days out which don't' cost the earth!"
